High pressure rim tape The third important factor against punctures, in addition to the tyre and inner tube, is the rim tape. The rim tape protects effectively against damage caused by, for example, spoke nipples or burrs in the rim base. It also covers the spoke holes. Tape should be purchased to fit the inside rim width from sidewall to sidewall.
